Five ways to build a world

Every Rhombica map is generated fresh. Pick a map type, and the game picks one of about 20 layouts for it, then rotates, mirrors and warps it, so no two worlds are the same.

A Classic Rhombica map seen from above

Classic

The original world: land and water scattered by noise, with every biome mixed in. A good all-round map for your first games.

A Pangea map: one big continent ringed by sea

Pangea

One huge landmass. Every tribe can walk to every other, so wars start early and armies decide the game.

Shapes include crescents, rings, stars, horseshoes and fjords.

A Continents map: a few large landmasses split by water

Continents

Two to four large landmasses split by narrow straits. Fight for your continent first, then build bridges or ships to cross.

Shapes include stripes, rings of continents, facing crescents and inland seas.

An Islands map: many islands scattered across the sea

Islands

Many islands of mixed sizes. Sailing, ships and troop carriers matter most here, and every capital starts on the open sea.

Shapes include atoll rings, spirals, island chains and clusters.

A Lakes map: mostly land broken up by lakes and rivers

Lakes

Mostly land, broken up by lakes, rivers and swamps. Short water crossings make bridges and fishing important.

Shapes include deltas, moats, rift valleys and lake districts.
